Yep you got to make the trek to find water, it's just part of the early game grind. There are water skins laying around in villages you can steal. There are lots of side-quests that are trivial to accomplish and will give you between 150-and-250 production (also the same for all of the skills). EDIT: Other than that, it's craft, craft and more crafting. The water isn't much use to them in the river, they drink out of waterskins or buckets. You can fill these, or set up a well where a villager can fill them and put them in the food storage, for people to drink fromWoodshed production should be transfered to resource shed automatically for now (manual transfer by NPC not put into the game yet). Check to see if wood resource is full. That's why mine stopped working.
